Brooke did really good on the plane. It was a very small plane, but she just sat on my lap for the most part eating her lunch the whole ride. (Fortunately, the lady sitting next to us didn't mind the occasional baby poking of the zipper on her shoulder!)
Race morning, we were all up at 4:00 a.m. Good thing we were all so tired the night before and went to bed at 7:30 p.m.!
Unfortunately, Brooke didn't get to see Nick run by as she was all tuckered out!!

Here he is! Nick did a great job on the swim, and finished in 1:37:21. His placing at the time was 2224 out of 2900 athletes. Next his transition time was very quick of 8:31, seeing as he had to running up a full parking lot helix, and get his biking gear on!

Nick then went on the nice "leisurely" 112 mile bike ride where he proceeded to pass about 1700 of the athletes that beat him on the swim. (If he was already ahead of them, where would all the fun have been on the bike?) His overall bike time was 5:36:10, which is an average of 20.0 miles/hr for the full 112 miles!! Crazy...crazy! His bike overall place was 237 out of 2900!!

Here is a picture of the beautiful capital building in down town Madison.

Nick kept up his strength and energy for the full 26.2 mile run! His transition time between the bike and run was a very speedy 3:53.

There are many athletes with amazing accomplishments and stories. From cancer survivors, to 140 lb weight loss, to even being blind. Here is a picture of the blind guy that did an amazing job at the race. It's so inspiring to see the feats people have overcome...on top of completing an Ironman race!

Here is another picture of Nick on the run...~19 miles of the run finished and 7.2 more to go!

Any finally, everything that makes the whole day worthwhile...the finish line, and finally being able to hug your loved ones again! Nick averaged 10:04 per mile for the full marathon, with a run place of 579 overall.
